Pallet Industry Thought Leaders Predict the Future
The economy, labor market, and supply chain—oh, my! It’s been a roller coaster ride for all three systems these past few years. But our CEO keeps a close watch on each to help our business and our customers stay ahead.
CEO Mia Allen spoke with Pallet Central magazine, the journal for the solid wood packaging industry published by the National Wooden Pallet and Container Association, for an article entitled “Forward Thinking” which profiles thought leaders and documents their insight on what factors will affect the pallet industry in 2023.
Here is an excerpt from that article:
Will the economic environment improve or deteriorate in 2023?
Allen: Rose Pallet predicts that volumes across all industries will slow moderately. Our company does not view this as a recession but rather a slowdown after a long streak of growth. We are already seeing supply increasing, and it will not surprise us if supply outpaces demand in many industries over the next six months. If that happens, costs may come down—but so will company profits.
How will this affect the pallet industry?
Allen: We anticipate more stable ranges for most wood species and normalized supply, except during the typical seasonal rush.
If there are no health disruptions, we expect to see an increase in available workers, especially since there will be layoffs in some mid-tier wage jobs.
Overall, Rose Pallet believes there will be a decrease in demand for pallets by as much as twenty percent while supply of recycled and recovered pallets may increase. We have also heard form our larger accounts that they are tightening loopholes in closed-cycle manufacturing, which means the number of usage turns will increase.
