America Recycles Pallets
America recycles day is November 15th. It was actually estimated that 80% of consumers and 84% of employees say they are more likely to buy from or work for a company that stands up for the environment. While recycling rate for Americans overall is around 32%, as reported by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. In hopes of raising the recycling rate, we would like to share more information regarding recycling.
Ways To Recycle
There are a multitude of ways to recycle. Many people may have seen the blue garbage bins designated for recyclable materials. Often times, people also make their own ways to recycle by repurposing something. An example of this would be cleaning a glass bottle in order to grow a plant in it (by hydroponics). You are also able to utilize what is referred to as the “7 R’s of recycling”. The 7 R’s consist of basic recycling, refusal of the item, reducing what is consumed, reuse, repair, re-gifting and recovering energy through composting.
Pallet Recycling
In our industry, pallet manufacturing, recycling is done at a very high rate. Over 90% of pallets are recycled. This can be by consumers participating in recycling programs or other ways. There has been a trend of D.I.Y pallet projects online which can be recreated at home with minimal investment. 95% of pallets were recovered into a usable material. The EPD (environmental product declaration) has confirmed that of the 85 million pallets tracked, a net positive effect was recorded. Meaning the wood pallet industry has a climate positive effect. The truth is most of the pallets used today are actually reconditioned pallets as well, instead of new pallets. This drastically contributes to the recycling rate for wood pallets.
