How to Safely Ship Fragile Items with Wood Crates

Shipping crates may not be exciting, but they sure can elicit excitement. Remember that iconic scene in A Christmas Story? Like the infamous leg lamp, if your product requires special handling or needs a little extra protection, wooden shipping crates are the perfect solution.

If you’ve seen the movie A Christmas Story, you’ll likely never forget the wooden crate labeled “FRAGILE” with the “major award” tucked inside. Indeed, wooden shipping crates are the perfect framework for moving delicate items.

Because they are lightweight and cost effective, crates are widely used to transport lower-cost products and agricultural goods like produce. They provide protection from damage during transit and are especially helpful for products requiring special care. Like pallets, crates can be custom engineered and easily broken down for recycling.

Small varieties are common and are usually built with slatted sides. But, it is possible to design larger crates to accommodate heavy products, too. These are constructed with large solid walls and a lid.

Rose Pallet crates are sturdy and secure and can be custom designed to whatever specifications you require. We offer a variety of options including crates for tradeshows, displays, moving, commercial/industrial, product-specific, and ISPM-15 export certified.

For the latter, it is important to procure your crates from an expert in packaging and crating for international export. That’s because many foreign countries require that wood crates shipped from the U.S. are heat treated to reduce the risk of pest infestation. Once treated, the shipping crates are stamped with an ISPM 15 mark. This identifies them as certified according to international shipping standards. Without this mark, customs can refuse to receive your shipment. Foreign authorities also have the right to fumigate or even destroy your shipment. When you work with Rose Pallet, we provide peace of mind and assurance that your international shipments will arrive safe and on time.
