Vice president Mia Allen spoke with Pallet Enterprise magazine, the wooden and plastic pallet industry source for news and information, for their monthly segment entitled “You Said It” which profiles both manufacturer and supplier executives working in the industry. Mia was happy and excited to share her experience working at Rose Pallet with readers. The edited version was published in the January 2014 issue; below is part one of the raw and uncut version.
PE: What is the best piece of business advice you’ve received?
MA: One piece of advice that is ingrained in my habits is to never procrastinate; rather, do it now and always do things when you say you’re going to do them. Therefore, I don’t wait or sit on things for too long, or they could be forgotten. I find it’s always best to get things done and completed right away. This really helps me stay organized and focused—not only in business, but also in my personal life.
PE: How do you help new employees understand your company’s culture/core values?
MA: We have a multi-step integration process for all new employees. Every new hire spends time with each department to better understand how all the pieces of the business function and fit together as well as his or her role in achieving our collective goals. He or she also receives an employee handbook in which our core values are prominently placed. I personally make sure that every member of my staff understands not only what is expected of him or her but also my philosophy of how to properly be a service provider in the pallet industry. This heavily stresses customer service, open communication with co-workers, and tons of relationship building with both vendors and customers.
We will feature the second half of the interview in a future post. In the meantime, think you’d like to work for Rose Pallet? Contact us for employment opportunities. Or, comment below and tell us your best piece of business advice; you never know who you might impact.
