Last November, Pallet Enterprise, the leading pallet and sawmill magazine, spoke with a group of material handling thought leaders on issues including automation, labor, transportation, and pallet usage.

The two big topics discussed—automation and sustainability—raised concerns such as the use-case aspect of technology and the future of conventional packaging. Does new software or automation systems really help improve productivity? And, will we use more reusable pallets, totes, or containers?

You can further explore these ideas and many other topics impacting the supply chain industry at ProMat 2019 in Chicago on April 8-11.

Before investing in automation, for example, attend the presentation on Tuesday, April 9, at 12:45pm, entitled “Focusing on Optimization, Before Investing in Automation.” The speaker will show you how to assess your warehouse needs, fleet capabilities, and talent to ensure space and processes are optimized for maximum utilization and workforce efficiency.

And, on the topic of reusable totes or pallets, there is a sustainability session on Wednesday, April 10, at 10:30am entitled “Reusable Transport Packaging – Improving Reusable Pallet, Container, and Tote Programs,” which aims to help retailers and manufacturers improve the handling, processing, tracking, and returning of reusable pallets and other transport packaging with efficiency.

In addition to automation and sustainability, ProMat 2019 offers more than 100 educational sessions covering future trends, cost saving ideas, inventory flow, and technology. The conference also boasts a large expo with 950 exhibitors featuring the latest industry solutions and equipment including our favorite—packaging, containers/pallets, and shipment systems.
