3 Things You Need to Know About Pallet Pricing & Delivery
Earlier this year, Rose Pallet attended the National Wooden Pallet & Container Association’s Annual Leadership Conference in Orlando. The theme of the event was “Manufacturing in a Time of Mayhem” with many seminars addressing concerns facing the manufacturing industry such as labor workforce and automation.
While challenges exist, Rose Pallet wouldn’t go as far as making ‘mayhem commercials’ like Allstate Insurance. We are, however, working hard behind the scenes to mitigate issues affecting the pallet industry before they impact you.
The Perfect Storm
If we were going to sum up the circumstances affecting the pallet industry, we would describe it as “The Perfect Storm.” Hurricanes affecting Puerto Rico, forest fires in California, a booming housing industry, manufacturing prosperity in the US, looming wood tariffs with Canada, new trucking regulations, unusually wet weather affecting forestation, and record wood exports to China are just a few conditions creating chaos in the marketplace.
Lumber and Material Costs
In particular, these factors have put pressure on pricing of both new and recycled/remanufactured pallets as well as delivery. Rose Pallet is proud to have navigated most of the havoc with minimal increases in spite of rising hardwood cant prices, which are an indicator of pallet costs. In fact, cant prices have risen from $395 one year ago to $465 last quarter. In addition, there has been a twenty-five percent increase in nails and outrageous hikes in transportation costs.
Yet, even with increased transportation costs, Rose Pallet has largely been able to maintain our excellent delivery speed; only slight delays have been experienced on occasion. We can’t tell you how we work our magic. That is a trade secret that keeps us working late most nights. You can help by allowing an extra day or two in planning for delivery.
Ultimately, Rose Pallet strives to keep any price increases to a bare minimum. And, we will continue to work hard to deliver a continuous supply of pallets, right when you need them. Through it all, we are committed to be transparent to you. If you have any questions, comments, or would like to continue the discussion, we encourage you to contact us anytime.
