As wood packaging professionals, we know the importance of working together with the forest products community to sustain and ensure the health of our nation’s forests. After all, without wood, there would be no pallets.

That’s why we are proud to support The National Wooden Pallet and Container Association (NWPCA) and the agencies with whom they partner to advance the health of forests and ensure material availability for pallets and other wood products.

Healthy forests offer many benefits including clean air and water, recreational opportunities, and—of course—the forest products we use in everyday living. The wood packaging industry helps support this initiative in several ways; but, chief among them is by providing a market for small diameter materials, which aren’t used in higher-end wood products. This material is only found in working forests, particularly those in rural areas.

The demand from pallet producers results in a need for forest preservation and creates job opportunities for local workers in sustainable forest management. It’s a win-win situation for our nation’s rural communities from an economic standpoint and the packaging professionals that rely on small diameter wood to make pallets.

To learn more, please view this short video produced by the NWPCA entitled “Wood Packaging Supports Healthy Forests and Strong Communities.” In just three minutes, you’ll hear from the president and CEO of the NWPCA as well as spokespeople from a variety of agencies and nonprofits devoted to forest management, conservation, and economic development.

So, the next time you look at a pallet and see just a rigid platform, used as a base for storing or shipping goods, reflect on this post and the video.  It goes to show you that pallets not only move the world, they help sustain it, too.  For all of your pallet management needs, please contact the pros at Rose Pallet!
