How to Save Loads with the Right Pallet Material and Design

Did you know type of wood can affect pallet performance and material handling costs?  Find out which wood is best for your operations as well as your bottom line by attending the Wood Design & Pallet Performance educational seminar offered by the Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design. This course begins on Tuesday, May 2, and runs through Thursday, May 4, at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, which is located right in the heart of the beautiful and scenic Blue Ridge Mountains.

For more than four decades, The Center has been in the fore front of pallet and unit-load research. It is involved in various research activities to move the design of packaging, pallet, and unit-load design to the 21^st century. In addition to developing the Pallet Design System (PDS™), which is one of the most widely used pallet design software with hundreds of users all of the world, the Center also develops and presents educational programs to train employees in related industries around the country.

This particular course packs in a ton of information into three days and what you take away could help you save loads (pardon the pun)!  It starts with a full afternoon of studying the effect of pallet design and selection on material handling costs, along with a tour of the Center’s pallet laboratories. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of new and remanufactured stringer class pallet design, including pallet part grades and fastener specifications, as well as the fundamentals of block class pallet design. Plus, there will be two opportunities to practice designing block class pallets using PDS™ as well as a discussion examining real-life case studies.
