The Pallet Design System™ (PDS) software is the material handling industry’s premier design tool for wood pallets. Originally developed in 1984 as a cooperative research project, the software is continually updated and a new version is released—about once per year—by the National Wooden Pallet & Container Association (NWPCA). Over 430 major pallet manufacturers in 30 countries currently use the PDS software, including Rose Pallet.

As an active user, we are able to customize the perfect pallet for our customers’ unique performance requirements. The latest version, PDS 5.3, has new engineering and analysis features that enable us to achieve higher levels of pallet design optimization and additional analysis capabilities. It also provides automated calculations of stacking patterns for containers on pallets, custom positioning of individual containers, and a new strapping slot analysis for deckboards and stringers. The lateral collapse resistance analysis is also more detailed than previous versions so we know exactly when the connection strength becomes critical thereby limiting the strength of the pallet.

For our clients desiring remanufactured pallets made from various components of used pallet material, the new version of PDS enables the analysis of recycled pallets with notched stringers to provide a better, safer design.

And, believe it or not, the next version is already in progress. NWPCA is working on a new user interface and reporting features in four additional languages–Spanish, French, Italian and German. The update is scheduled for release in summer 2018 and will further solidify PDS as the global standard for unit load design.
