March Madness is underway and it’s only 12 days until the new NCAA champs reign. The tournament is a great excuse to get together with family, friends, and co-workers to celebrate the wins and commiserate over the losses. In fact, the entire event is a great representation of teamwork and support. What occurs on and off the court is a lot like what companies strive to achieve in the workplace—with their corporate culture.

In fact, there has been a lot of discussion of late in the wooden pallet and container industry about workforce and the value of human capital. Workforce recruitment and retention is crucial to the success of any business. But, how can owners minimize turnover?

4 Tips for a Winning Workplace

  1. Start Within – Rather than going mad over hiring the most qualified candidates, the answer is to look internally at what the company can do to keep the employees they already have and foster loyalty.
  2. Show You Care – While there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ playbook, a positive company culture starts with caring about each other and ensuring that everyone is dialed in to the greater purpose of the organization. After all, it’s in our nature to desire companionship with likeminded people. When your employees feel that kind of fellowship at work, service will improve and business will grow.
  3. Seek Feedback – At Rose Pallet, our employees are our most important asset and we truly enjoy each other’s company. We regularly seek out employee input and feedback to make sure our culture and our business thrives. Each quarter we promote their first-hand accounts in an employee spotlight series.
  4. Promote Balance – Ultimately, we have found success in balance. While we all work hard, we make time to play, too. From employee appreciation luncheons and holiday parties to volunteering our time in the community, we build camaraderie on and off the clock.
